Fine grinding follows, starting with proper waterproofing. After the sealant has dried, a soft diamond resin grinding sheet is used for finer results. This stage accounts for approximately 35% of the total time and can achieve a finish as fine as 2000#.
Before polishing, the granite should be at least 70% dry. A natural British brown granite sealer is applied to fill in any porous areas and strengthen the material. This not only improves the gloss after polishing but also increases the surface density, providing a solid base for the polishing agent and improving the adhesion of the polishing materials.
Polishing requires the granite to be completely dry. A high-powered crystal machine (with at least 2HP) is used, and a specialized polishing compound like Milk Q5 is applied. After polishing, the surface gloss of the British brown granite can reach at least 90-100 degrees, giving it a smooth, reflective finish.
In terms of physical properties, British brown granite has a bulk density of 2.97 g/cm³, compressive strength of 122.6 MPa, flexural strength of 17.4 MPa, a water absorption rate of 0.19%, a Mohs hardness of 6.6, and a gloss level of 86.6.
Its visual characteristics include a rich red-brown color with good luminosity. The texture variation between different blocks does not significantly affect the overall appearance when installed. The face pattern is large, while the side pattern is smaller.
The main advantages of British brown granite include its distinct biliary structure, which comes in various shades such as deep red, reddish, large flowers, and small flowers. The color and pattern may vary slightly from one mine to another, but the variety remains relatively stable. However, some common defects include black spots, black lines, red veins, uneven texture, inconsistent patterns, and cracks. The stone is typically available in large blocks, and in China, a preference is often given to smaller brown patterns on a brown background.
