British scientists develop new car safety protection system

British scientists have developed a new type of car safety protection system. The system can effectively reduce the casualty ratio by estimating the individual's physiological index and adjusting the tension and softness of the seat belt and the airbag.

This system consists of a finger scanner, an on-board computer and a smart seat belt and airbag that adjusts tension and stiffness. The scanner can be installed anywhere in the car such as the dashboard or door. After the driver or passenger gets into the car, first place his finger on the ultrasound scanner. The scanner sends a harmless pulse wave along the finger, calculates the bone density of each person, estimates the power they can withstand, and the time each person needs to faint because of a car accident. The scanner then delivers this data to the onboard computer. The computer program adjusts the tension of the seat belt and the softness and hardness of the airbag based on the information obtained.

The researchers say the system is useful for older drivers and young drivers with weak bones. The results of their computer simulations show that the system can reduce the risk of chest injuries in elderly and women in car accidents by 20%. Scientists are developing prototypes for use on real vehicles.
