Flaky powder metallurgy iron-based catalyst for synthesizing diamond

Recently, Li Hesheng, Li Musen et al. reported the use of flake-shaped powder metallurgy iron-based diamond catalysts for diamond synthesis on a six-face press (abrasives, abrasives, 2006, issue 6). The results show that the catalyst significantly reduces the current consumption of synthetic diamond and reduces the consumption of cemented carbide top hammer caused by "shooting" to almost zero. Due to the extremely brittle diamond coating formed by iron-based catalyst, it is expected to realize the synthesis block. The mechanical separation reduces the serious pollution caused by electrolysis or pickling to the environment; at the same time, the synthesized diamond has good crystal form and high strength, which can meet the requirements of industrial production. Their research conclusions are:
(1) The use of flake powder metallurgy iron-based diamond catalyst for the synthesis of diamond greatly reduces the production cost.
(2) Since the coating film of diamond synthesized by the novel catalyst is very brittle, the diamond can be separated and purified by mechanical or physical methods, which significantly reduces the environmental pollution of the conventional purification process, and is expected to achieve green production.
(3) The diamond synthesized by the catalyst has the advantages of good crystal form, high strength and large single yield, which can meet the performance requirements of general industrial diamond.
