A few days ago, the team of Zhang Lei and Yang Jing of Tianjin University successfully developed "all-weather self-healing material". The material's performance is self-healing quickly under extreme conditions such as severe cold, deep sea and strong acids and alkalis, and is expected to become a "super electronic skin" for robots, deep sea detectors and various high-tech equipment under extreme conditions. According to reports, self-healing materials are synthesized using advanced supramolecular technology. For a long time, the existing self-healing materials have performed poorly in extreme cold, deep sea water, strong acids and alkalis. How to quickly repair themselves in extreme environments has become an insurmountable technical bottleneck for self-healing materials.

The team of Zhang Lei and Yang Jing of Tianjin University successfully used different hydrophilic groups and disulfide groups to successfully synthesize elastomer materials that can self-heal quickly under various extreme conditions. The team made full use of the synergetic interaction of different dynamic bonds, so that the material can achieve high elasticity, high stretchability and rapid repair of damage without the help of any external energy. According to the experimental results, this new type of self-healing material can achieve rapid healing within 10 minutes at room temperature, and can withstand a weight of more than 500 times its own weight after healing. It exhibits high-efficiency self-healing properties at low temperatures of minus 40 degrees Celsius, super-cooled high-concentration saline, and even in strong acid and alkaline environments. It is an excellent "all-weather" self-healing material.
