Experts judge the removal of the formaldehyde epidemic rule

Experiments show that every room temperature rises by one degree Celsius, formaldehyde, which is volatilized from wooden furniture and floors, will increase the concentration of formaldehyde in the air by 0.15 to 0.37 times. Right now, many owners who have been renovated after the Spring Festival will soon move into their new homes. So, how can we turn off the air before we check in? Nowadays, there are many methods for removing formaldehyde that are circulating. Which method is truly scientific and effective? Song Guangsheng, director of the Environmental Monitoring Branch of China Interior Decoration Association, commented on the popular methods.

Plant absorption method
Plants have a strong ability to absorb formaldehyde, such as cactus, spider plants, reeds, ivy, cycad, chrysanthemum and so on.

Expert Comments: Many plants do have the effect of purifying the air. But this does not mean that plants can completely remove the formaldehyde in the air. The absorption of formaldehyde by plants can only play an auxiliary role in the process of purifying the air. If the content of formaldehyde in the air is too high, it may even cause the plant itself to die. In general, large leaf and vanilla plants have better absorption of formaldehyde, such as Chlorophytum, Hyacinthium and others.

Civil circulation methods
Put the tea residue, pomelo peel, onion slices, pineapple pieces, etc. in the newly decorated room or fumigate the whole room with white vinegar.

Expert Comments: The use of tea dregs, grapefruit skin, onion slices, pineapple blocks and other soil methods can only play a role in covering, such as covering the toilet smell. But these things do not absorb the formaldehyde in the air. In addition to these things, some people also like to use perfumes and air fresheners. This is not advisable because the chemicals in perfumes and air fresheners may react with substances in the air and cause secondary pollution.

Activated carbon adsorption
Solid activated carbon has many characteristics of pores, and it has strong adsorption and decomposition of harmful substances such as formaldehyde. The smaller the particles of activated carbon, the better the adsorption effect.

Expert Comments: The adsorption of formaldehyde on activated carbon is obvious, but depending on the size of the space, the amount of activated carbon placed is also different. In addition, activated carbon adsorption to a certain extent needs to be replaced. Although the effect of activated carbon is good, but as with other methods, it does not completely remove the formaldehyde in the air.

Photocatalyst decomposition
The catalyst in the photocatalyst catalyzes the stimulation of light, oxygen and moisture in the air to generate negative ions and hydroxyl radicals, which can oxidize and decompose various organic pollutants and inorganic pollutants and eventually degrade into carbon dioxide, water and corresponding acids. Such as innocuous substances, so as to break down the pollutants and purify the air.

Expert Comments: Experiments have shown that photocatalysts are effective in absorbing formaldehyde. Photocatalyst as a new type of material, in theory, will not cause secondary pollution, but due to the different processes used by various manufacturers to produce photocatalysts, it cannot be said that the photocatalyst must not cause secondary pollution. In addition, the use of photocatalysts is relatively complicated and generally requires the use of specialized service companies.

Purifier treatment

At present, air purifiers on the market are divided into negative ion type, ozone type, filter adsorption type, electrostatic integration type, and photocatalyst type. Different air purifiers have different working principles. For example, anion type is used to produce indoor negative ions, decompose odors and attached fumes in the air, so as to achieve the purpose of purifying indoor air.

Expert Comments: Air purifiers have a certain effect in the absorption of formaldehyde, but air purifiers are generally only effective in closed spaces. If you use an air purifier with windows open, it will not only have no effect, but it will also waste electricity.

Chemical purification method
At present, the formaldehyde trapping agents on the market are divided into two types. One is to purify the air by neutralizing formaldehyde to generate harmless substances; the other is to purify the air by blocking the formaldehyde and preventing the volatilization of formaldehyde.

Expert Comment: Formaldehyde Catalyzer is also an effective method to absorb formaldehyde. At present, some people think that the formaldehyde sealant completely limits the volatilization of formaldehyde. In fact, the formaldehyde sealant cannot completely seal off the formaldehyde and can only reduce the amount of formaldehyde released. Therefore, it is believed that the closed formaldehyde will burst out at some time. The understanding is incorrect.
