Mullite as a new raw material for cleaning diesel exhaust

Dallas University scientists at the University of Texas have discovered a material called Mullite (also known as mullite), which comes from the oxide family and is expected to replace current platinum materials in the automatic removal of diesel waste.

Platinum is often used as a material for cleaning diesel waste because diesel-powered vehicles emit more nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen oxides than gasoline-powered vehicles (although diesel engines may be more efficient). In order to reduce the pollution of a large amount of diesel exhaust gas, platinum plays a crucial role in it.

However, platinum is a precious metal. The mining cost of platinum is not only very expensive, but it is also subject to certain restrictions. On average, only about 1 ounce of platinum can be used per ton of platinum.

In addition, diesel exhaust gas has recently been listed by the World Health Organization as a carcinogen harmful to humans. Therefore, it is quite necessary to find a reasonable and effective cleaning plan.

Dallas's materials science expert and physics engine scholar Dr. Kyeongjae Cho, and his research team have been working on this solution and found that mullite is exactly what they need.

A computer model was used to observe how mullite cleaned up nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen oxides. It was found that the removal of oxides from mullite was not only much less expensive than platinum, but also reduced diesel exhaust gas pollution by 45% compared to platinum. .

Dr. Cho said: It seems that we want to save costs while further reducing environmental pollution. We have found an effective solution that not only does not have to be limited by energy extraction, but also goes further in cleaning up technology.

The current catalyst for mullite as a raw material is called Noxicat.
