The stable development of the shipbuilding industry is conducive to machine tool orders

Shipbuilding involves a wide range of standard components, many of which require specialized machinery for production. This highlights the structured nature of the shipbuilding industry and the corresponding demand from machine tool manufacturers. **Rockwell Secures $6 Million Order from South Korean Shipping Industry** On September 5, Rockwell Automation announced a contract worth over $6.7 million with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, a leading South Korean marine engineering and shipbuilding company. The agreement includes delivering an integrated security solution to Transocean, a major global offshore drilling contractor. Part of the deal involves the delivery of four drilling vessels, with an option to build six more. This follows a similar order in 2011, when Daewoo placed a $6 million contract with Rockwell for the development of four new offshore drilling vessels. Transocean, one of Daewoo’s key clients, relies on advanced automation systems to ensure safety and efficiency in its offshore operations. Rockwell will integrate AADvance process safety systems into its PlantPAx platform, offering a comprehensive control, power, and safety solution. According to Daewoo, this partnership provides a robust, reliable system that enhances both operational availability and safety in offshore environments like drilling vessels and platforms. A representative from Daewoo emphasized that Rockwell's deep expertise in offshore automation will be critical in delivering and commissioning the Transocean project, ensuring seamless integration of information, control, power, and safety systems. Terry Gebert, Vice President and General Manager of Rockwell Automation’s Global Solutions, stated that winning this order is a significant milestone, showcasing the company’s ability to deliver control and safety solutions for offshore vessels and rigs. He added that Rockwell’s experience in the oil and gas sector, combined with its global engineering resources, will help Daewoo and Transocean achieve efficient, safe, and sustainable operations. The first vessel is expected to be delivered in early 2014, with all key systems for the first unit completed by June 2014. The remaining three vessels are scheduled to have their critical systems finished by October 2015. **Haimen Expands Its Shipbuilding Industry** Leveraging its coastal and port resources, Haimen City has been actively developing its offshore equipment industry. Yanda Heavy Industry, the first large-scale project utilizing the deep-water shoreline of Haimen Port New Area, has a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan. The project focuses on manufacturing industrial modular devices, components, pressure vessels, chemical equipment, power plant auxiliary equipment, and new energy modules. Since its start in 2011, the project has progressed rapidly, with the first phase already operational and the second phase under construction. Haimen is also expanding its ship machinery industry along the Yangtze River coastline. Several major projects are underway, including a provincial heavy equipment manufacturing park with a total investment of 10 billion yuan, a Hong Kong-funded offshore shipbuilding and repair base, and joint ventures with COSCO Heavy Industry and Kehai Equipment, each with investments of 1.5 billion yuan. Additionally, the China Merchants Offshore Equipment Project was signed last year with a total investment of $65 million, and a sales contract worth nearly $2 billion was also secured. With these projects coming online, Haimen’s shipbuilding and offshore equipment industries are set to grow rapidly, becoming a key driver in the city’s industrial transformation and economic development.
