Egg-shaped ecological house
When the water rises, the house can float up without worrying about being flooded
In a unique project by BMT Asia Pacific, architects have reimagined sustainable living by creating floating homes inspired by nature. Using recycled materials, they designed houseboats, floating huts, and beach houses that blend seamlessly with their environment. Initially, the team aimed to build a dome for a new cruise terminal in Hong Kong, but after extensive research, they transformed the concept into a floating eco-resort.
The design started with an egg-shaped floating hut, taking inspiration from natural forms. The team then evolved the idea into a full-scale houseboat, splitting the egg-like structure and lifting the top shell to form a curved terracotta roof. This innovative approach created a visually stunning floating home with panoramic views from its upper level. A mezzanine leads to a master bedroom, where large windows offer breathtaking vistas of the surrounding waters.
According to a company representative, "This luxurious space is envisioned as a residence near a lake or river, or as part of a larger hotel or creative studio complex. With advanced insulation, temperature control, and the ability to install solar panels on the roof, it's a versatile and sustainable solution suitable for various climates."
The project highlights how modern architecture can merge aesthetics with environmental responsibility, offering a glimpse into the future of sustainable living on water. Whether used for private living or commercial development, these floating homes represent a bold step toward eco-conscious design.
