Efficient use of paclobutrazol in spring

Paclobutrazol is a plant growth regulator that effectively suppresses the top growth of crops, controls morphological differentiation, stimulates the development of lateral buds, promotes flower bud formation, increases the flowering rate, and enhances the plant's resistance. When applying paclobutrazol, several key techniques should be considered to ensure optimal results. One common method is root soaking, soil application, or foliar spraying. Among these, soaking, soil application, and foliar spray are most effective, as they provide longer-lasting and more stable effects. For soil application, there are two main approaches: one for field-grown leafy crops, where an annular groove about 5 cm deep is dug around the canopy and the pesticide is evenly distributed into the trench, followed by watering; and another for potted plants in greenhouses, where the soil is watered immediately after the application. Foliar spraying is typically done during the early growth stages. The timing and concentration depend on the type of flower, soil conditions, and nutrient levels. Spraying is usually done using a fertilizer sprayer, but care must be taken to ensure even coverage on the growing points of the plant. The dosage and concentration of the chemical vary depending on factors such as the plant variety, growing conditions, age, and soil quality. Soil application usually requires about 0.25 grams per square meter, while foliar sprays are generally applied at concentrations between 800 ppm and 1500 ppm. Root soaking is typically done at 70-90 mg per liter, with a soaking time of 5 to 8 hours. The timing of application also varies based on the method used. It is recommended to apply soil treatments before the spring flower buds begin to develop. Foliar sprays are best applied when new shoots reach about 10-15 cm in length. For deciduous flowers, earlier application is advised to ensure the treatment takes effect in time. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions and safety guidelines when handling any plant growth regulator.
