Nissan is recalling 841,000 vehicles globally, including the Micra (known as Ma Chi in some regions) and Cube, due to a potential issue with the steering wheel. The affected models were manufactured between 2002 and 2006 and are sold in various regions such as Japan, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and the Middle East.
According to a statement released by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the steering wheel may not have been properly tightened during installation. In severe cases, this could lead to a failure of the steering system, potentially compromising vehicle control.
Nissan spokesperson Noriko Yoneyama confirmed that there have been no reports of injuries or accidents linked to this issue so far. The company plans to address the problem by tightening the bolts on the steering wheel. If necessary, the steering wheel will be replaced. The repair process is expected to take approximately 40 minutes per vehicle.
This recall highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks, especially for older vehicles. Owners of the affected models are advised to contact their local Nissan dealership to schedule a free inspection and repair. This proactive approach ensures that any potential risks are addressed before they become a serious concern.
