The laboratory, recognized by the Ministry of Education in 1999 as a key laboratory for Molecular Enzyme Engineering, has been continuously evolving under the leadership of esteemed professors. Currently, Professor Feng Yan serves as the laboratory director, while Academician Wang Zhixin leads the academic committee. The lab focuses on fundamental research with strong application potential, aiming to promote independent innovation and advance scientific development in the field.
Over the years, the laboratory has made significant contributions to molecular enzymology engineering, gaining international recognition. Its research aligns with global trends and represents China's leading position in this area. The lab offers master’s and doctoral programs, as well as postdoctoral research opportunities. It has also been designated as a special professorship site for the Changjiang Scholars Program.
Funded by the “211 Project†and “985 Project,†the laboratory has undertaken numerous national and provincial research initiatives. It maintains state-of-the-art platforms for enzyme molecular evolution, structure-function analysis, functional genomics, and novel enzyme technologies. Researchers have published over 100 papers in top-tier journals such as the Journal of Biological Chemistry and Nucleic Acid Research. Additionally, the lab has trained numerous graduate students and postdocs, and collaborates with institutions worldwide, including the U.S., Japan, Germany, the UK, and France.
The laboratory operates under a structured management system, ensuring smooth operations and effective resource utilization. As a leading research and training center, it continues to drive innovation and foster academic exchange in the field of molecular enzymology engineering.
