In 2013, China's hardware exports continued to show steady growth, reflecting the country's increasing role in the global manufacturing and trade landscape. This period saw a rise in the export of various types of hardware tools, including door and window hardware, construction-related products such as faucets, shower systems, toilet accessories, valves, pipe fittings, and other plumbing hardware. Additionally, metal ceiling lamps, movable partitions, and decorative panels were also part of the growing hardware market.
The range of products extended to electric screwdrivers, fasteners, metal wires, nails, and screws, demonstrating the diversity of the industry. From January to March 2013, the metal products sector was categorized based on cumulative import and export volumes. Key categories included construction hardware, tool hardware, household hardware, locks, gas appliances, shower rooms, stainless steel kitchen appliances, zippers, and range hoods.
Among these, the construction hardware, tool hardware, and household hardware sectors collectively accounted for 42.99%, 17.51%, and 12.62% of the total import and export volume in the first half of the year, respectively. While the construction hardware and tool hardware industries saw slight increases compared to the same period in the previous year, there was a minor decline in overall performance. Despite this, the domestic hardware and tool brands still needed to improve their reputation and quality to better compete internationally.
In terms of foreign trade, the metal products industry in China primarily relied on general trade. From January to March 2013, the volume of general trade imports and exports increased by 12.52%, representing 73.34% of the total industry's trade. General trade exports rose by 15.25% year-on-year, although this marked a 3.16 percentage point drop compared to the same period in 2012. Meanwhile, general trade imports grew by 2.39% year-on-year, with a 6.35 percentage point decrease from the previous year.
