Nissan has announced a global recall of 841,000 vehicles, including the Micra (locally known as Ma Chi) and Cube, due to a potential issue with the steering wheel. The affected models were manufactured between 2002 and 2006 and are distributed across various regions, including Japan, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Latin America, and the Middle East.
According to a statement released by Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the steering wheel may not have been properly tightened during the manufacturing process. In severe cases, this could lead to a failure of the steering system, potentially compromising driver control and safety.
A spokesperson for Nissan, Noriko Yoneyama, confirmed that there have been no reported incidents or injuries linked to this defect. To address the issue, owners will be contacted to have their steering wheels inspected and, if necessary, tightened or replaced. The repair process is expected to take approximately 40 minutes per vehicle, ensuring minimal disruption for customers.
This recall highlights Nissan's commitment to safety and quality, as the company continues to proactively identify and resolve potential issues in its vehicles. Owners are encouraged to contact their local dealerships to schedule a free inspection and repair. As always, staying informed about vehicle recalls is an essential part of responsible car ownership.
