Pearl conservation taboo

Pearl care tips: Pearls are delicate and require special attention to maintain their beauty and longevity. The first rule is to avoid water. Never wear your pearls while showering, swimming, or exercising, as moisture can seep into the bead holes—especially in necklaces or bracelets with fully drilled beads—which may cause the beads to loosen or fall off. If your pearls get wet, gently dry them with a soft, clean cloth and store them in a well-ventilated area to prevent damage. Second, avoid exposure to heat. Do not leave your pearls in direct sunlight or in hot environments for extended periods. When storing, wrap them in a soft, clean cloth and keep them in a cool, dry place. The ideal storage temperature is between 18°C and 26°C. Third, avoid contact with acids and alkalis. Pearls should not be worn in the kitchen where fumes may contain acidic substances. Also, avoid applying makeup, perfumes, lotions, or nail polish before wearing pearls, as these products can damage the surface. Always remove makeup before putting on your pearls. It’s also important to wipe your pearls regularly with a soft, dry cloth to prevent oils and sweat from sitting on the surface, as they can be mildly acidic and harmful over time. Lastly, avoid hard surfaces and sharp objects. Keep your pearls separate from other jewelry or items that could scratch them. If your pearls become dirty, gently wipe them with a soft cotton cloth first, then use a piece of deer skin or a microfiber cloth for a polished finish. Never use detergents or harsh chemicals, as they can erode the pearl's natural luster. Proper care ensures that your pearls remain beautiful and valuable for years to come.
