Research and Application of Key Technologies for Standardization of Distribution Automation Terminals

Recently, the key technology research and application project on the standardization of distribution automation terminals, led by State Grid Corporation of China through its subsidiary Nanrui Beijing Kedong Co., Ltd., has successfully passed the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements organized by the China Institute of Electrical Engineering. The appraisal committee unanimously recognized the project for its innovative design concept and scientifically sound technical approach. The overall research outcomes have reached internationally advanced levels and are leading domestically, offering significant economic and social benefits. The committee strongly recommended further promotion and practical application of these results.
This key technology project focuses on multiple aspects of distribution automation terminals, including technical specifications, software and hardware development platforms, secondary security protection schemes, and operation and maintenance management tools. It proposes comprehensive standards covering technologies, types, testing, installation, and operation and maintenance management of distribution automation terminal series. The project also involves the development of standardized terminals with expandable and interchangeable boards, enabling plug-and-play functionality. Additionally, it introduces hardware encryption based on secure authentication protocols, integrating the unit and security master module to achieve standardization in status monitoring, function configuration, and file management of distribution automation terminals.
The developed distribution automation terminals have been deployed in the distribution networks of five provinces: Beijing, Tianjin, Fujian, Liaoning, and Qinghai. These results have played a crucial role in advancing the standardization of distribution automation and enhancing its practical implementation. With ongoing improvements and wider adoption, the project is expected to significantly contribute to the efficiency and reliability of power distribution systems across the country.
