Introduction to distribution transformer

A distribution transformer is a static electrical device that transfers alternating current (AC) energy through electromagnetic induction. It works based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, allowing it to step down or step up voltage and current levels as needed. These transformers are commonly mounted on utility poles or located in power distribution stations. Their primary function is to reduce high-voltage electricity—typically from 6 to 10 kilovolts (kV)—to a lower, safer voltage level, usually around 400 volts, making it suitable for residential and commercial use. They play a crucial role in the power distribution system by ensuring safe and efficient delivery of electricity to end users.
