On December 29, 2013, during lunchtime at the No. 3 Oil Production Plant’s First Station in the Three Districts of Dagang Oilfield, a group of workers gathered to share stories about their daily routines. As they ate rice and chatted, the conversation naturally turned to safety helmets.
“I think it’s time to eat,†said Li Sister, “Li Qingli, you’re still wearing that hard hat. Can’t you take it off?â€
“I just came back from the well and forgot to remove it,†she replied with a smile.
“Back when we first started working, you used to complain about the helmet being too heavy. Now you’re fine with it, but you still wear it.â€
“I’ve gotten used to it now. I don’t even feel its weight anymore. It’s actually quite comfortable. You know, two days ago, when I was changing the oil on the wellhead, I accidentally hit the valve above my head. If I hadn’t been wearing the helmet, I might have had a serious injury. I was really lucky that day,†Guan Qinggong shared.
Xie Chunfeng, another worker, added, “When I first started, I thought the helmet made me feel top-heavy. But over time, I realized how important it is. I used to resist wearing it, but now I can’t imagine going without it. Before heading out to work, putting on the helmet is the first thing I do.â€
Huang Dehui, a pipe worker with over 20 years of experience, nodded in agreement. “I’ve gotten so used to wearing the helmet every day. If I go out without it, I feel completely out of place.â€
Guan Zigong and Qi Dan chimed in, “Through various activities like standardized operations and safety awareness campaigns, we’ve all come to understand that wearing proper protective gear is essential. The safety helmet is not just a requirement—it’s our best defense against accidents.â€
“Never get used to not wearing a helmet,†someone said.
