Shiyan renovation does not act as a seat belt

In a recent initiative aimed at improving road safety and promoting responsible driving, Shiyan City launched a centralized campaign to address the issue of drivers and passengers not using seat belts. On the first day of the operation, over 1,000 drivers were found without wearing seat belts and faced penalties. The campaign, which ran from February 1st to 28th, was divided into two stages: an education phase from February 1st to 16th, followed by a strict enforcement period from February 17th to 28th. The primary focus of the campaign was on key roads such as Shiyan City Road and the Shibai Expressway within the city district. According to local regulations, drivers who failed to wear seat belts on urban roads would be fined 50 yuan, while passengers would receive warnings and guidance. On highways or first-class roads, the driver would face a fine of 50 yuan and a deduction of 2 points from their license. On the morning of the event, reporters visited the Zhangwan Youth Square area, where officers from the Third Brigade of the Municipal Public Security Bureau had set up a checkpoint using traffic cones to direct vehicles for inspection. At 9:20 AM, a taxi was stopped by the police. All four adults in the vehicle, including the driver, were not wearing seat belts, and the front passenger was holding a child. "Are passengers also required to wear seat belts?" the passenger asked, surprised by the traffic officer's reminder. Later, at 9:40 AM, a black private car was pulled over, and the driver was found without a seat belt. When the officer explained the violation, the driver revealed that he had installed mobile seat belt buckles to avoid discomfort. "It keeps making a 'click' sound, so I bought these to make it easier," he said. The officer confiscated the devices and issued a 50-yuan fine, citing the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People’s Republic of China. According to official statistics, more than 1,000 drivers were checked during the day, and over 200 pairs of mobile seat belt buckles were seized. This campaign highlights the city’s growing emphasis on road safety and the importance of proper seat belt use for both drivers and passengers. As public awareness continues to rise, such measures are expected to contribute significantly to reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
